Yesterday at work, I was suddenly invited to a panel discussion with Alan Cox organized by Sioux as part of their Hot or Not sessions.
Since I didn't attend Alan's talk yesterday (if you recall, I was feeling old at the time), I didn't really have much context to prepare for the session. Luckily, there's always IRC and there are always questions enough BSD and embedded people can ask a full-time inhabitant of the Linux kernel.
We had a particularly interesting discussion about the community aspect of the Linux kernel and how it affects businesses (and how businesses, and particularly the enterprises employing kernel hackers, affect Linux). On a more technical level, particularly multi-core systems were discussed at length.
Sneakily, I asked about the future of 'superpages' in the Linux kernel. I couldn't resist. :-) The answer is: 'eventually, yes'.
Alan had a serious cold. Tomorrow, I will probably also have a serious cold.
Overall: great session. Sioux is welcome to invite me to these more often (or to invite Johan and Johan can then let me go in his place ;-)).
Since I am writing this at the bar (neighbours of Kulminator have open wifi, thank you, thank you, thank you!), and more people are showing up, I should start to concentrate more on drinking and less on blogging.
Cheers!
