08:27 – Ugh! Cheapo IDE disks!

I managed to blow up yet another cheapo new IDE disk last night. A 200G monster which contained my FreeBSD source trees. Because most of the data on it is fairly easily rebuildable, I never bothered to back it up too religiously. Of course, the disk failed when I'd temporarily (about a month ago) moved my $HOME on it (including my dot-files) because a six-year-old proper disk died.

So, I'm rewriting some dot-files today. Worst monster is my slrn score file. I'd moved from TIN to slrn a while ago because I liked the scoring bits, and I'd written quite a large scorefile. Of course, that's never been on any tape, so it needs rewriting. I also had a merry time trying to remember the key to #bsddocs. I thought it was in grog's home on freefall, turns out it was in jmallett's. Typical.

Right, frustration. Please don't mention dot-files to me today, unless you want your head snapped off.

In other news, it appears portmgr has approved my ports commit bit. Kirill (krion@) was a bit fed up with me bombarding him with patches. :-) Of course, I need to update my .procmailrc too now. Aaargh!
